Fatal Vehicle Collision Near UNC Charlotte Due To Possible Impairement

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – CMPD is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a 57-year-old man, according to a news release.

The release states that officers responded to the collision on September 9 at 4:45 a.m. on Plaza Road Extension, near UNC Charlotte.

Officers found two vehicles involved, a 1999 Ford F-150, driven by 57-year-old Lee Saten, and a 2019 Ford-250 with extensive front-end damage, driven by 30-year-old Edwin Bellorin, Jr.

Staten was found and pronounced dead on the scene and Bellorin suffered minor injuries.

CMPD says the F-150 was driving on Hood Road northbound and entered an intersection and the F-250 was traveling on Plaza Road Extension eastbound and failed to stop at a red light, resulting in entering the intersection and striking the driver’s side of the F-150.

Bellorin showed signs of impairment at the scene and was arrested and charged with felony death by motor vehicle.
