Scattered Showers Pick Up Across The Region Friday
AM Headlines:
- Francine’s Wide Reach
- Cooler and Wet End to Week
- Watching Coastal Low
Discussion:
Moisture from Tropical Depression Francine will bring scattered showers and storms to our area beginning tonight into Saturday. Expect cooler than average temps and more clouds as a wedge sets up across the region. The heaviest rain will stay south and east of the area, but we could still see some moderate pockets of rain especially for areas west of I-77 into the foothills and mountains. By Sunday, we’ll have a bit of a lull in the rain, but we’ll be watching a system that could develop off the coast that could bring more rain early next week if it moves inland.
Tropics Update:
Francine made landfall yesterday evening as a category 2 hurricane. Currently, more than 350,000 are without power in Louisiana. It will weaken as it pushes further north into the Mississippi Valley, while moisture expands well east and north through the weekend.
Tropical Depression 7 located in the eastern Atlantic is expected to strengthen into TS Gordon soon, but will not be a threat to land at this point.
Coastal Low off the SE could form late in the weekend into early next week. This could bring more rain and storms to the region if it moves inland, regardless of becoming tropical. It will be something to watch over the next few days.
