Cloudy & Cool Weekend Ahead
Temperatures remain below average through the weekend as clouds and a few showers roll through the Carolinas.
It may be Friday the 13th, but the forecast doesn’t look so scary this weekend. While dull, gray clouds will likely stick around for the next several days, rain chances won’t exactly soar through the roof. That said, scattered showers will be in the forecast now through at least Sunday morning. The gray skies and northeasterly winds will keep us on the cooler side as highs struggle to clear the 60s and 70s across the board this weekend. It’s become clear that the remnants of former Hurricane Francine won’t be a major weathermaker for us, but a separate potential tropical system might be early next week.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring an area off the Carolinas coastline for potential tropical development early next week. This future area of low pressure appears poised to bring rain to North Carolina regardless of whether or not it gets a name; the only uncertainty is exactly how much. Right now, medium-range models are trending toward a tropical depression or weak storm hovering near the Outer Banks by midweek before slowly moving inland to the northwest. There isn’t good agreement on when (or if) we see any rain from this potential system here in the WCCB Charlotte viewing area right now, so stay weather-wise with us as the forecast becomes clearer this weekend.
