12-Year-Old Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter In East Charlotte Homicide

 

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A 12-year-old juvenile has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection to a 16-year-old’s death in east Charlotte on Friday night, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. on Burnt Umber Drive near Plott Road. When police arrived, they located a victim, 16-year-old Jaiden Harris, with a gunshot wound.

Harris was pronounced dead by Medic.

Police determined in an investigation that a 12-year-old juvenile was the suspect in this case. The juvenile was interviewed by detectives and was charged with involuntary manslaughter, police said. The juvenile was later released into the custody of their parents.

The incident was originally considered a death investigation but has now been upgraded to a homicide, according to CMPD.

Police are still actively investigating the shooting.
