Deputies: Intruder Arrested After Breaking Into Home And Shooting Owner

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. – The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office have arrested and charged a man after he allegedly broke into a home and shot the owner, according to a news release.

The release states that on September 22, the victim returned home to find 45-year-old Samuel Deal and a confrontation ensued.

Deputies say  the victim, Gregory Cline, and Deal exchanged gunfire, resulting in Cline sustaining a head injury. Cline was taken to the hospital and has since been released.

A manhunt was conducted after the incident to find Deal, utilizing K9 units and drones. The search concluded at 10 p.m. on September 22.

Deal is being charged with:

  • Felony breaking and entering
  • Felony larceny after breaking and entering
  • Larceny of a firearm
  • Felony robbery with a dangerous weapon
  • Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
  • Felony possession of firearm by felon
  • Two counts of felony possession of methamphetamine
  • Two counts of possession of drug equipment/paraphernalia
