Charlotte Firefighter Rescued After Being Trapped In Three-Alarm House Fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte firefighter was rushed to a local hospital after part of a burning home in Ballantyne collapsed and trapped the firefighter inside.

The fire started just after 1:30am on Ledger Court in south Charlotte. Upon arrival, heavy fire was coming from the garage area of the home, according to a news release.

Fire officials say the blaze quickly grew so a second-alarm was called shortly after 2am. Around that time, a mayday call was issued after part of the home collapsed and trapped the firefighter. A third-alarm was issued.

After working for approximately 20 minutes, the firefighter was freed and transported to CMC Main with minor injuries, according to a news release. The firefighter has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

The fire was under control shortly after 3am. A total of 80 firefighters worked to put out the fire and were part of the rescue operation.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
