Gastonia Ghost Peppers Tabbed As New Baseball Team Name
GASTONIA, N.C. – The Gastonia Baseball Club announced the team’s new name on Wednesday night.
The team will be known as the Gastonia Ghost Peppers in 2025 and the years to come.
“We are excited to begin this new chapter as the Ghost Peppers,” Zawyer Sports & Entertainment CEO Andy Kaufmann said. “After all the buzz surrounding the ‘What If’ takeover home stands, we’re thrilled it culminated in the fans selecting our new name. We’re proud of the impact we’ve made in the Gastonia community, and we look forward to continuing team success in the new threads.”

The Ghost Pepper name comes from the “Carolina reaper” chili pepper, the world’s hottest chili pepper from 2013-2023.
Fans were able to vote on the team name in August and had eight potential names to choose from. The other seven names were:
- Gastronauts
- Bolognia
- Galactic Dinos
- Zombees
- Garden Gnomes
- Yarniaks
- Gastonia Baseball Club
Ghost Peppers received the most fan votes.
