Avery County Schools Plan To Reopen November 6th

AVERY CO., N.C. – Avery County schools announced a tentative plan to reopen on November 6th after being closed for weeks due to severe storms and flooding from Helene.

Officials said they are transitioning from recovery and relief efforts and feel it’s an appropriate time to reopen the schools.

On November 6th, Avery County schools will operate on a two-hour delay and will dismiss at normal time.

Optional teacher workdays will be on October 28th-November 1st. Required teacher workdays will be on November 4th-5th.

Bus routes will be modified due to concerning road conditions throughout the area. Pickup and drop-off locations will be communicated to parents and students at a later time.

The YMCA will provide after-school care starting November 6th, as well.

School schedules will be reassessed on a weekly basis.
