Rock Hill Farmers’ Market Set To Reopen After Being Closed For Months
ROCK HILL, — Trips to the grocery store are burning holes in the pockets of some living in Rock Hill’s Southside.
Some residents, like Robert Butterfield, used to rely on Victory Gardens Internationl’s Farmacy Community Farmstop on Crawford Road to buy fruits and vegetables. The farmers market sold items like lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, eggs, and more at a fraction of the cost of grocery stores charge.
“We don’t have a lot over here for us,” Butterfield said. “That was the closest thing to getting some help.”
Discounted greens came to an end in April when the Farmacy was forced to close its doors after a severe storm. Southside residents like Butterfield had no choice but to go back to shopping at stores farther away and more expensive. Butterfield now travels four miles to the closest Food Lion. The nearest store to the Farmacy is a Family Dollar that is just under a mile away.
Even while closed the Farmacy did it’s part to help residents after severe weather. Volunteers Worked with the Farmacy to give out meals and supplies. “They give back to the community. When we had that storm they gave back and threw a concert,” Butterfield said.
Neighbors were unsure if the Farmacy would ever open again. The shops founder, Jonathan Nazeer, posted an announcement to Facebook that said the Farmstop is coming back thanks to help from donors. The full post read:
7 months ago on April 20th we closed our doors at Farmacy Community Farmstop not knowing when or if we would ever reopen, but thanks to some awesome donors and some hard work we are happy to announce the Grand Reopening on Saturday Nov. 2nd 10am – 3pm.
Thank to all those that supported
@Victorygardensinternational’s work and we look forward to continuing to “Growing Community Together”.
The owner of the store was unable to comment. The grand reopening of the Farmacy will take place Saturday, November 2nd.
