Cool Sunshine Through Midweek, Tumultuous Thursday Ahead

While severe weather is not in the forecast, Thursday's rain could be heavy at times.

After a cloudy and foggy beginning to the workweek, Tuesday is starting off on a much clearer note. Temperatures have fallen significantly on the backside of Monday’s cold front, as lows are setting up in the 40s and 50s this morning. Expect sunny skies and cooler highs in the 50s and 60s this Tuesday afternoon as northeasterly breezes continue to pump chilly air into the Carolinas. Wednesday morning will likely be the coldest we’ve seen in nearly a month as lows dip into the 20s and 30s across the board – while a hard freeze is likely in the High Country, the Piedmont and Foothills should stay well above 32°. Our Hump Day highs will get cut down even further despite abundant sunshine through the early afternoon; the Metro will struggle to get out of the 50s as more clouds build in ahead of another rainmaking system.

Thursday is looking like a mess. Severe weather is not in the forecast, but the rain could be heavy at times as highs may fail to clear the 30s and 40s across the board. Short-range model guidance is suggesting anywhere between a half-inch to an inch of rain in our area as widespread shower activity engulfs much of the day. Plentiful sunshine returns by Friday as temperatures go into recovery mode by the weekend, but highs will likely end up near-average at best in the mid-60s across the Piedmont and Foothills.
