Alerts:
- Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 1 PM Thursday to 7 AM Saturday for Ashe, Watauga and Avery Counties. 1-2” for lower elevations and 2-4”+ above 3,500′.
- Freeze Watch in effect from late Thursday night through Friday morning for Stanly, Anson and Richmond counties.
- Wind Advisory in effect from 5 PM this evening until 7 AM Thursday for Ashe and Watauga counties. Winds could gust up to 50 mph.
Forecast:
Tonight: Gradual clearing. Temperatures drastically dropping. Winds increase. Wind gusts up to 35 mph possible in the Piedmont with gusts up to 50 mph in the Mountains.
Thursday: With the cold air in place and the windy conditions, some neighborhoods in the mountains could feel like they are in the teens early in the morning. It will be a breezy and cold morning followed by a windy and cold day. Wind gusts up to 30 mph. Plenty of sunshine with highs in the mid 50s. Mountain snow showers.
Friday: Near freezing in the morning in Charlotte – some neighborhoods will likely drop to freezing. Sunny and cool. Highs in the low 50s. Breezy with winds gusting up to 30 mph. Mountain snow showers.
Saturday: Highs in the upper 50s with sunny skies.
