Discussion:
It is a mild and wet start with scattered showers and patchy fog. Showers will clear by midday, but clouds will linger through the evening. A cold front will begin to cross the region beginning this afternoon. Expect temps to drop through the afternoon for the mountains and foothills, while highs will top out near 70 across the Piedmont before dropping sharply overnight. Gusty winds will transition out of the northwest this evening. A wind advisory is in effect for the mountains until Thursday morning. Gusts 40-50 mph will be possible. Breezy and much colder tomorrow with lows falling into the 20s and 30s overnight. Highs will struggle to break out of the mid 50s for the Piedmont with temps not getting out of the 30s for the mountains. Upslope flow will lead to the first significant snow of the season for the high country. Elevations above 4500′ could see 4-5″ by the start of the weekend. This could make travel slick. It will remain breezy through the end of the week with winds out of the west 10-15 mph and gusts up to 20-25 mph possible. Friday will be the coldest day with wind chills in the teens and 20s to start the day and highs only reaching the low 50s. High pressure will fill back in this weekend leading to warmer temps with highs back into the low 60s by Saturday and mid 60s by Sunday. Even warmer next week with highs climbing toward 70 by Tuesday.
