Winter surges into December

A few bouts of light snow will find their way into the High Country over the next 48 hours.

At 24º, the Queen City woke up to its coldest morning since January 22nd – and the polar plunge gets even deeper as we make our way into the final month of 2024. Get ready for another frigid night as teens and 20s greet us for December’s first morning. Abundant sunshine and southwesterly winds will do their best to send the Piedmont and Foothills back into the 50s Sunday afternoon, but the High Country will likely end up in the 30s as a weak cold front brings clouds and a few snow showers to our elevated communities.

The aforementioned front will keep low temperatures in the teens and 20s for the next several nights – highs will struggle to get out of the 30s and 40s across the board on Monday and Tuesday. A stray flurry may even find its way into the Piedmont Monday night as another round of light snow arrives in the mountains. The back half of the week ahead looks a bit warmer before another dry cold front brings winter back into the Carolinas by next weekend.
