Speedway Children’s Charities raises record-breaking funds for local charities

CONCORD, N.C. – The Charlotte chapter of the Speedway Children’s Charities hosted a party Tuesday night to celebrate a year of fundraising for local charities. The Speedway Children’s Charities leaders also presented grants to various charities.

We caught up with board chairman Marcus Smith. His mother and father started the charity in 1982. Smith says, “And it really started out of a of a really sad and tragic story. I had a younger brother that died. And of course, through that pain, people like to do things to help, give back, I think, and that that was an inspiration for my mom and dad to start Speedway Children’s Charities to help kids that are in the toughest parts of life.”

This year, the Speedway Children’s Charities broke a record for the most amount raised in a single year since they started in 1982. They raised $1.4 million to give to 67 organizations.
