CHARLOTTE, NC – A former track coach at Charlotte Country Day School has been indicted by a grand jury after police arrested him on charges of indecent liberties with a student.

Police arrested 39-year-old Matthew Elliott on November 13th. According to court documents, a probable cause hearing scheduled for December 3, 2024 was canceled after a grand jury indicted Elliott on two counts of felony indecent liberties with a student.

CHARLOTTE, NC – A track coach at Charlotte Country Day School has been fired after police arrested him on charges of indecent liberties with a student.

The school sent a letter to parents on Wednesday to let them know about the arrest of 39-year-old Matthew Elliott. The letter says the alleged misconduct happened with an alum when the woman was an Upper School student within the past few years.

Country Day says it placed Elliott on administrative leave after learning about his arrest, and then fired him and barred him from their campuses.

Elliott is supposed to face a judge Thursday afternoon.

CHARLOTTE, NC – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives arrested a former high school track coach and charged him with two felony counts of indecent liberties with a student.

The victim told investigators that 39-year-old Matthew Elliott began initially flirting with her and made numerous advances and that they had an inappropriate relationship. She says this happened while he was her cross-country coach at a local private high school.

Elliott’s social media accounts indicate he is a cross-country coach at Charlotte Country Day. We have an email into the school to confirm his employment and we have requested a statement from the school, as well.

The victim, who is now an adult, reported the allegations to police on Friday, November 8th. Detectives arrested Elliott on Wednesday, November 13th at his home. He is being held on $10,000 bond.
