The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Danger Statement for much of Central and Western North Carolina from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday due to strong winds and low humidity, creating ideal conditions for rapid spread of fires.
Behind a strong cold front relative humidity levels will fall to 25-30%, while winds will gust up to 25-35 mph through early evening. Dry vegetation due to ongoing drought conditions will provide fuel for any fire that gets out of control.
Outdoor burning is highly discouraged to prevent accidental wildfires. Take extreme precaution operating any machinery outside, or using outdoor grills.
