Man wanted for burglary and assault after police say he ransacked a Belmont apartment

BELMONT, NC – A man faces a number of charges after police say he ransacked an apartment on McLean Avenue in Belmont, then attacked two woman and fired a gun.

The incident happened around 6am on Friday.

Police are looking for 29-year-old Andrew Johnson.

He’s wanted for felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflect serious injury, felony second degree burglary, possession of a firearm by felon, felony discharge of weapon in occupied dwelling, assault on female and damage to property.

According to detectives, two men and two women say they arrived at the apartment to find the door had been kicked in.  They say they went inside and noticed the apartment had been ransacked.

The victims say while they were inside, Johnson came in and started assaulting the two women.  The two men say they went up to Johnson, who fired a gun at the ground.

Police say the rounds ricocheted and hit both men. The suspect took off after the shooting.
