Morganton Christmas Parade rescheduled due to inclement weather

MORGANTON, N.C. — The Morganton Christmas Parade, originally scheduled for tonight, December 10 at 6 p.m., has been postponed due to the threat of heavy rain and gusty wind. It has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 17.

Excessive Rainfall Outlook Days 1 5

An approaching cold front will trigger steady rain with the potential for heavy downpours and gusty wind this evening. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Heavy Rain: Downpours will intensify this evening, with rainfall rates of 1-2″ per hour possible
  • Flooding Risk: Heavy rain could train over the same area leading to localized flooding in low-lying or poor drainage areas
  • Gusty Winds: Winds could gust up to 25-30 mph
  • Travel Concerns: Slick roads and reduced visibility due to fog will make travel tricky

The rain will stick around through Wednesday morning. Once the cold front clears the area, temperatures will tumble with gusty northwest winds leading temperatures below freezing by Wednesday night.
