Discussion:
A strong cold front will push through the region today. Ahead of it, heavy rain continues this morning, especially within the Piedmont and Foothills where the heaviest rain has been training for the last few hours. The commute will be messy, with localized flooding due to clogged drains from the leaves and in urban and low lying areas. Once the front passes, rain tapers off but gusty winds and much colder air will move in quickly. Temperatures will go from near 60 this morning to the mid 40s this afternoon. Mountain snow possible with 1-2″ possible near the NC/TN border tonight. A wind advisory will also be in effect for the mountains with gusts up to 55-60 mph. Temperatures will tumble to subfreezing lows by Thursday morning with highs struggling to break out of the upper 40s to lower 50s Thursday afternoon, but it will be dry through Saturday afternoon. By Saturday night into Sunday more rain is expected ahead of another cold front. Temperatures will warm up back into the low 60s by early next week.
