CMPD Animal Care & Control warns about scam phone calls

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control is warning the public about a scam. The agency says people are receiving calls from someone saying they are from Animal Care & Control. The caller then tells them their dog is hurt, and they need payment to treat them. Animal care & control believes the scammers are trolling lost pet social media posts and targeting people who have lost their pets.

ACC will never ask for payment over the phone. The only way to reclaim your lost pet from ACC is to come to the shelter in person. If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately. Then, call 311 or (704) 336-7600 to contact the ACC Call Center. They can connect you with a supervisor to assist you further.
