America celebrates National Bacon Day
CHARLOTTE, NC — There’s literally a day to celebrate everything.
Today is National Bacon Day.
Bacon is no longer just a breakfast item.
People sprinkle bacon onto sandwiches, soups, appetizers, even some cocktails like to include it. The U.S. and Canada make bacon from the pork belly.
Other countries around the world use the side and back cuts of pork.
The meat is cured in either a salt brine or a salt pack.
It is then either dried, boiled, or smoked. On average…About half of all American eat at least a pound of bacon each year.
