Monroe daycare center teacher accused of spraying kids with disinfectant, forcing children to fight
MONROE, NC – Disturbing, disgusting and down right evil allegations coming out of a daycare in Monroe.
Luvonda Smith said a video going around social media shows the director of Childtime Learning Center in Monroe slamming the door of a classroom with children inside.
Smith and fellow teacher Alexis Perez said this happened after the two came forward with allegations of another teacher abusing some of the children. Perez asked we don’t show her face.
“She had the kids surrounded around one of one of our prior students, and they were fighting him,” Perez said of what she walked in on inside a classroom days before Christmas.
Perez says the accused teacher, admitted to her she told them to slap and punch the three-year-old boy.
“I cried and I was very upset because those kids come to daycare for us to basically be their guardian,” Perez said of the allegations.
Perez tells WCCB that same teacher, preyed on that same student’s fear of bugs as a form of discipline.
“She would put [bugs] in her pocket. So when it came around to him not listening, she would tell him,” Perez continued, “I have a bug. Here’s a bug.”
That type of disturbing discipline didn’t stop with that student, according to Smith and Perez said. Perez said she witnessed the teacher spraying two-year-old’s in the face with disinfectant spray. Smith said that teacher admitted to it as well.
“She did admit to the spraying in the face. But she says it was just a little bit so she don’t think it was a big deal,” Smith explained.
Perez said she told Smith, who then said she went to the administration. Not long after, Perez was fired she says for using her cell phone, and Smith was placed on administrative leave because she said she talked to a parent. Both believe they were unjustly disciplined for doing the right thing and coming forward with allegations.
A Childtime spokesperson tells WCCB:
“All of us at Childtime are committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment for the children in our care and take all concerns brought to us very seriously. Although we believed these allegations were initiated by disgruntled former staff and without merit, we immediately conducted a thorough internal review and notified our state licensing department. Additionally, we have provided our full cooperation to the licensing and police investigations, the results of which determined that the allegations were unfounded. We are unaware of the video in question.”
Monroe P.D. tells WCCB Charlotte:
“We are aware of the video circulating on social media and there were two incident reports filed over the weekend that are currently being investigated by our detectives.”
