Winter storm comes to an end, but icy conditions continue
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA — A winter storm brought a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain to the region on Friday. We started Friday afternoon off with dry air, therefore, the snow that was falling was evaporating before it made it to the surface which cut down snow totals for Charlotte. After 1,077 days, Charlotte did manage to break the longest measurable snow drought on record!
As of Saturday morning, the wintry weather has moved out, but icy roads and sidewalks linger – especially for those below freezing. As temperatures rise and clouds give way to sun, a lot of the ice will melt. We will have to watch for a refreeze, especially in the mountains and foothills Sunday and Monday mornings.Keep up with the latest forecast from the WCCB WeatherWise team by downloading the WCCB Weather App
