CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police are investigating a deadly crash that happened overnight in southwest Charlotte.
It happened around 5:45 a.m. Saturday on Steele Creek Road just south of West Boulevard and Byrum Drive.
Officers located an overturned Honda Accord off the roadway with extensive damage.
The driver, 31-year-old Damonta Alexander, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicated that Alexander was traveling north on Steele Creek Road at a high rate of speed and ran off the road to the right. Police said the Honda struck a brick sign which caused the vehicle to overturn.
Speed is a factor and impairment is suspect, but toxicology reports are still pending, police said.
