Two dead including 14-year-old boy, two others injured in east Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two people died and two others were seriously injured following a car crash in east Charlotte overnight.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning near the intersection of East W.T. Harris Boulevard and Hickory Grove Road.

When officers arrived, they located a Yamaha motorcycle and a Ford Fusion severely damaged in the intersection.

The motorcyclist, 25-year-old Anthony Ayala, was traveling south on East W.T. Harris Boulevard at an extremely high rate of speed, police said. He collided with the Ford while it was attempting to make a left turn onto Hickory Grove Road.

The Ford driver, Sara Perez, was not injured. Two passengers, 20-year-old Edgar Gonzalez-Perez and another juvenile, sustained minor injuries.

A 14-year-old boy also in the Ford was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Ayala was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Ayala was wearing a helmet and all four occupants in the Ford were wearing seatbelts.

Speed and impairment by Ayala were contributing factors in the crash, police said. Toxicology reports are still pending.

Police said neither speed nor impairment were factors in the collision for the Ford driver.
