HICKORY, NC – A candle is blamed for sparking a two alarm fire at the Hickory Gardens senior apartments in Hickory.
Firefighters were called to the complex on 3rd Avenue Northwest around 3:45 Monday afternoon. They found smoke and fire coming from the building with people still inside.
Firefighters got more than 30 people out. Paramedics took one person to the hospital and checked out several on scene. There’s no word on the condition of the person who went to the hospital.
Officials say the fire damaged two apartments, with smoke damage throughout the building.
