Wind Advisory in effect Tuesday for the N.C. Mountains

A Wind Advisory is in effect for Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties until 3 p.m. due to strong northwest winds. Sustained winds of 15-30 mph with gusts 40-50 mph possible. This could bring down trees and cause scattered power outages across the high country, as well as impact travel for high top vehicles.

A strong pressure gradient between high pressure to the west and low pressure to the north is is funneling winds down the eastern slopes of the mountains. Winds will die down this evening. But, expect strong winds Wednesday as a clipper system to the north creates gusty winds for the mountains and a breezy outlook for the Piedmont.
