Reagan National airport resumes flights following deadly midair collision

ARLINGTON, VA – Flights have resumed at Reagan National airport following the deadly midair collision involving an American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter Wednesday night.

A post on the airport website says flight operations resumed at 11am Thursday.

All airport roads and terminals are open. Some flights have been delayed or cancelled, so passengers are encouraged to check with their airline for specific flight information.

All 64 people aboard the jet were feared dead in what was likely to be the worst U.S. aviation disaster in almost a quarter century, officials said Thursday.

At least 28 bodies were pulled from the icy waters of the Potomac River after the helicopter apparently flew into the path of the jet late Wednesday as it was landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington, officials said. The plane carried 60 passengers and four crew. Three soldiers were aboard the helicopter.
