CONOVER, NC – A former daycare worker in Conover is out of jail on bond, charged with eight counts of assault on a child under 12.
Conover Police arrested 29-year-old Kayleigh Gambill on Friday, January 31, 2025.
The police chief says a member of the NC Department of Health and Human Services notified the department on January 28, about a complaint involving Gambill and the Woodlawn Baptist Church Child Development Center.
Conover Police then conducted their own investigation.
According to police, the suspected abuse happened last year and there are seven victims in this case.
Woodlawn Baptist Church’s senior pastor tells WCCB the church found out on December 4, 2024 about the complaint involving Gambill and that she was fired that same day.
Senior Pastor Tim Jernigan says they shared security camera video from the child development center with the state and are cooperating with authorities.
We are deeply saddened by this and are praying for all families involved, said Senior Pastor Tim Jernigan. “Our top priority remains the safety and security of all children entrusted to our care.”
