WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has updated a recent vegetable recall to its most serious category. The FDA says Braga Fresh in late December initially issued a voluntary recall for its Marketside brand 12 ounce bags of Broccoli Florets.
It was after Listeria contamination was discovered by Texas health officials in several product samples from a Walmart. No illnesses had been reported.
However, late last month the FDA upgraded the recall to a Class-One.
The agency says that means there is a higher risk of serious health consequences or death, if using or consuming the product.
The Broccoli under recall has a best-by-date of December 10th of last year. It was sold at Walmart stores in 20 states.
The lot code is B-F-F-G 3-27 A-6. So far, no reports of illness or deaths. However, if you have frozen bags of this product in your freezer, the FDA advises to throw it away immediately.
