Rail Trail Lights are back: “Golden Threads” lights up every night at sunset

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Rail Trail Lights are back. This marks the 6th year that the South End portion of the rail trail will be lit up with never before seen light installations. Rail Trail Lights is free and open to the public. Nine installations will line the rail trail from Atherton to the Bland Street light rail station. They will light up after the sun sets each night. This project, called “Golden Threads,” is the work of 12 local artists.

Lead artist Meredith Connelly says the installations are inspired by nature and how nature inspires humans to build. Connelly says, “So you will see honeycombs. You will see what is behind us, is called weavers, inspired by the zig-zag of a writing spider. There are lots of things, scales and cairns, so you really get to go on a journey.”

Rail Trail Lights started Friday night and runs through Sunday, February 23rd.
