Warm weekend, wet workweek ahead
Most communities in the WCCB Charlotte viewing area will see 1-3" of rain through Friday morning.
We’re finally seeing a few peeks of sunshine this Saturday afternoon after an overcast start to the weekend, but mostly cloudy skies stick around through the evening. Temperatures will slowly rise overnight as winds from the southwest gush into the Carolinas. A stray shower or two is possible overnight as a cold front passes through, but most spots outside of the mountains remain dry through Sunday afternoon. Despite the passage of the incoming front, temperatures will soar into the lower 70s across the Piedmont and Foothills as mostly sunny skies return to the WCCB Charlotte viewing area.
Enjoy the good times on Sunday while they last – the week ahead looks cold, wet, and messy. High pressure will build to our north on Monday and Tuesday, filtering in cooler air from the northeast while setting us up for the wedge. Widespread rain chances arrive by Tuesday morning from the southwest. With temperatures falling into the 30s Monday night, we’ll want to watch for sleet and ice potential along I-40 and northward for the Tuesday AM commute. While impactful ice, sleet, and snow totals are possible in the High Country, most communities in the Piedmont and Foothills will only see rain. Another round of widespread showers arrives Wednesday into Thursday; this should be a cold rain across the board. Drier air arrives by the end of the week, but temperatures remain on the cooler side.
