Daycare in Monroe being sued by family for shocking viral video involving child
MONROE, NC –Startling video allegedly showing the director of Childtime Children’s Center in Monroe, slamming the door of a classroom, only to quickly reopen it, scaring children in the process.
“They’re also upset if you see the condition of the child in the video. He’s very upset. He’s crying,” explained attorney Ellie Bragg.
Bragg is representing the family of the 11-month old in the video suing Childtime.
“We do believe there is ongoing abuse and neglect,” said Bragg.
The lawsuit claims Childtime Children’s Center negligently hired and failed to properly train it’s employees. According to the state’s Child Development and Early Education website, Childtime had dozens of violations for lack of staff training.
That video was taken and posted to social media by a former employee.
Bragg tells WCCB without the video, they would never have known what was going at the daycare. However, the infant’s face was never blurred in the original video. So, the family is also suing for invasion of privacy.
“Now this 11 month old image and video is permanently on the internet, on multiple platforms without anyone’s permission and it’s something that my clients cannot undo,” explained Bragg.
The whistleblower who took the video is one of eight Childtime employees mentioned individually in the lawsuit along with the daycare. Delicia Chambers was also named. She was arrested in late January on three counts of misdemeanor child abuse. Monroe PD says she sprayed other students with a water bottle as punishment.
“What’s happened to our client or any child in that facility? It just can’t happen again,” said Bragg.
The family is seeking $50,000 in damages.
