24-year-old killed in Taylorsville crash

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. – One person died and others were injured following a crash in Taylorsville on Saturday night, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

It happened around 7:40 p.m. on NC 16 and Alspaugh Dam Road.

Troopers said a Toyota Camry, traveling northeast on Alspaugh Dam Road, failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a Toyota Tacoma heading south on NC 16.

The Camry driver, 24-year-old Jason Chapman, died at the scene. The Tacoma driver, 35-year-old Jose Guadalupe Gutierrez Estrada, and other passengers were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers said that impairment and speed were contributing factors in the collision. They also said that no charges will be filed in this case.
