Elderly woman dies in Gaston Co. house fire

GASTON CO., N.C. – An 82-year-old woman is dead and another person is hurt after a house fire in Gaston County. Crews responded to the scene on Alexis High Shoals Road around 7 Sunday evening.

Officials say 75-percent of the house was on fire when firefighters arrived. Investigators believe the fire started in a living room, likely from combustible items located close to a space heater.

The fire has been ruled accidental.
