Gov. Stein advocates for Medicaid

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein was in Charlotte Friday advocating for Medicaid.

The governor says the health care program is vital to the state, but worries it could face cuts.

He says more than three million North Carolinians, or about one in every four, are on the program that provides health insurance to low-income Americans.

“The House just passed a budget in Washington, cutting $880 billion from the part of the budget that has Medicaid in it. And Medicaid is far and away the biggest piece of that part of the budget,” Governor Stein said.

Despite the governor’s concerns, President Trump and Republican leaders have promised repeatedly not to cut Medicaid, Medicare or Social Security except in instances of fraud.
