Huntersville leaders approve controversial Birkdale Village expansion project

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – An expansion is on the way for Birkdale Village. Huntersville city leaders voted in favor of the controversial project during Tuesday night’s meeting.

The $200 million expansion includes an office tower, apartments, retail space and a parking deck. The deck must be built prior to any new construction.

Opponents say the project will bring overcrowding and more traffic.

Construction is set to begin in 2027.
