Southbound lanes of I-85 in Gaston Co. reopen after multi-vehicle wreck

GASTON CO., NC – A major wreck closed all southbound lanes of Interstate-85 on Friday morning.

The crash involving at least eight vehicles, including tractor-trailer, happened around 9am just before Exit 23 near Main Street in Gastonia.

Gaston County Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) says EMS took five people to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation says traffic backed up past McAdenville. The southbound lanes reopened around 11:30am.
