Charlotte Hornets break ground on new training facility

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Hornets broke ground Wednesday for the construction of the organization’s new state-of-the-art training facility.

The groundbreaking celebration was held at its future site, directly behind Spectrum Center off North Caldwell Street.

The facility, the Novant Health Performance Center, will feature more than 160,000 square feet of space for training and performance, retail, sports medicine care, and more.

“As we break ground on the Novant Health Performance Center, we are not just constructing a building, we are laying the foundation for an exciting future,” said Charlotte Hornets President of Basketball Operations Jeff Peterson. “This facility will be a center of excellence, equipped with cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art resources to help our athletes perform at the highest level. We are incredibly proud to partner with Novant Health, whose expertise and innovation in sports science and athlete care will make this one of the premier performance centers in the NBA.”

Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles was there along with other city and community leaders. Hornets players, partners and program participants joined on stage to conclude the event.

The facility is expected to open during the Hornets’ 2026-27 season.
