Woman charged after deadly hit-and-run in Uptown

CHARLOTTE, NC – A driver wanted for a deadly hit-and-run over the weekend in Uptown Charlotte has been arrested, according to police.

Police were called to the 700 block of W. 4th Street around 9:30 Saturday night after a driver hit a man crossing the road and kept going.

Officers found 64-year-old Michael Janik laying on the shoulder of the road. Medic took him to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Detectives, with the help of CMPD’s Real Time Crime Center, were able to track down the car and its driver. They arrested 44-year-old Sidney Cain.

She is charged with felony death by vehicle and felony hit and run.

Investigators say speeding and impairment are suspected factors in the accident.
