Discussion:
High pressure is still in control today, keeping things sunny and seasonable with highs in the mid 70s. Winds will transition out of the south/southeast later in the day which will push smoke from the Graham and Mcdowell county fires west and north. The warming trend kicks in Friday and really ramps up into the weekend as that high slides offshoreand pulls warmer air in from the south. Expect temps to reach the low to mid 80s Friday through Sunday. Clouds will also fill in with the added moisture, but no need to change your outdoor plans for Easter — rain chances will remain limited until next week.
A cold front will approach from the west and could stall over the Carolinas, leading to scattered showers and possibly even a few storms. Models still not in total agreement with this setup, but it will be our next chance at more active weather.
