11th-hour funding lifeline surfaces for struggling Limestone University

GAFFNEY, S.C. – A vote on the possibility of closing Limestone University in Gaffney, South Carolina has been delayed. The delay comes as a possible funding lifeline has surfaced that could allow the school to remain open.

The Board of Trustees met Tuesday to discuss next steps. The board chair said they are gathering more information about the possible new funding, and emphasize the money is a possibility and not confirmed at this time.

Last week, the university president announced that they need $6 million to stay open through the fall semester.

The board will reconvene next week or sooner to share more information.
