Panthers draft Ole Miss EDGE Princely Umanmielen at No. 77 overall

The Carolina Panthers traded up for the second time on Day 2 of the NFL Draft to select Ole Miss edge rusher Princely Umanmielen.

Umanmielen, 23, played four seasons at Florida before transferring to Ole Miss prior to the 2024 season. With the Rebels, he was named first-team All-SEC after finishing with 37 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks.

At 6’4” and 244 pounds, Umanmielen flashed at the combine, finishing sixth in the 10-yard split, third in the vertical and broad jump, and fifth in the 20-yard shuttle.

The Panthers traded its No. 85 pick and No. 146 (fifth-round pick) to the New England Patriots to move up to No. 77, according to Mike Garafolo.

Umanmielen is the second edge rusher the Panthers have taken so far in the 2025 NFL Draft. Carolina addressed its need at the position in the second round by selecting Texas A&M’s Nic Scourton.
