8th annual Tunnel to Towers held at Bank of America Stadium

The eighth annual Tunnel to Towers Climb was held Sunday morning at Bank of America Stadium.

The event was held to honor law enforcement officers that sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, including the four fallen officers on Galway Drive on April 29, 2024.

This is the first time the event was held at Bank of America Stadium.

A ceremony was held before the climb to honor CMPD Offficer Joshua Eyer, Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks and N.C. Department of Adult Correction Investigators William Elliott and Samuel Poloche.

The shootout with law enforcement happened at a residence on Galway Drive nearly one year ago on April 29, 2024. The suspect, Clark Hughes Jr., shot at the officers from the second story of the house.

Eight officers were shot in total. It was the deadliest law enforcement incident in Charlotte’s history.

The Tunnel to Towers program supports families of fallen officers or firefighters by paying off mortgages or providing mortgage-free homes.
