One year since officers killed in Charlotte ambush

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Charlotte community is remembering four officers killed in the line of duty exactly one year ago Tuesday. 

Thomas Weeks, Joshua Eyer, Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott were killed while serving a warrant at a home on Galway drive.

The suspect, Terry Hughes Junior was also killed by officers.

Four other officers were also injured.

Over the last year CMPD said its rolled out a wellness program that offers free therapy.

“You can’t hide from pain and trauma, but you can help deal with it by seeking counseling, by talking to one another, making it more open,” CMPD Deputy Chief Zeru Chickoree said. 

Eyer was one of the first officers on the scene of the shooting.

Pfeiffer University, which is his alma mater, created a scholarship in his memory. 

The scholarship provides support for undergraduate students who are committed to the service of others and is intended to encourage others to emulate his example.
