Center for employment opportunities helps formerly incarcerated find jobs
CHARLOTTE, NC — Inside this recycling plant is a room full of second chances.
“We help people who’ve been convicted of crimes get second chance opportunities to get into the workforce,” Center for Employment Opportunities social manager Ryan Marshall said.
Formerly incarcerated people work recycling styrofoam, but for many its more than just a job.
It’s a step toward a new life.
“Because of your crime, it doesn’t mean that you don’t deserve a second opportunity. If you are outside and you know you did your time, then as CEO, we believe you paid your dues and deserve every opportunity to improve,” Marshall said.
The Center for Employment opportunities helps formerly incarcerated people find stable employment after their release helping to reduce the number of re – offenders.
“So while they are here, they are productive and a member of the community where we have a safe community and productive and save a lot of taxpayer money as well,” CEO supervisor Paul Huyn said.
Through recycling many are breaking the cycle and taking steps towards a brighter future.
“The people that come here are individuals that’s willing to help themselves, that sought us out and take advantage of these opportunities to get back into the workforce and become, you know, great members of our society,” Marshall said.
