UNC Charlotte Day of Remembrance marks 6 years since deadly campus shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC – The UNC Charlotte community came together on Wednesday to remember the lives lost when a gunman opened fire on campus six years ago.

Riley Howell and Reed Parlier were killed, and four other students were hurt in the shooting inside the Kennedy Building on April 30, 2019.

That gunman was later arrested and sentenced to life in prison.

The day of remembrance included a wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial Constellation Garden outside of the Kennedy Building.

The wreaths are on display throughout the day so the community can pay their respects.

The University dedicated the permanent memorial honoring the victims in 2023.
