Bill to allow concealed guns for some teachers
Two North Carolina bills would allow trained teachers, volunteers, even visitors to carry a gun at your childโs school.
Each bill requires gun holders to have written permission from school leaders and a valid concealed handgun permit to carry on school grounds.
State lawmakers are looking for protection in private schools from the community, which may not have the money to put towards professional security.
Multiple lawmakers pointed to the 2023 Nashville shooting that killed six people. Reverend Mark Creech works with Christian-driven advocacy nonprofit Return America. He says this isnโt about pushing extended gun rights.
โItโs really about making sure that you have a good defense against an evil defense,โ Creech said.
The Senate bill specifies that the gun holder should be a school employee or volunteer. It also requires annual training.
โItโs not just anybody in that school who be there to meet that threat,โ Creech said.
The NC House approved the bill in a 62-44 vote on Thursday.
