Officials urge boat safety

As the weather gets hotter, more people are spending time on the water. Lake patrol officials want to make sure you stay safe on your boats

They say it’s important to make sure all of your equipment is up to date. They recommend doing a full inspection of your boat to make sure it’s ready for the season. If you haven’t, they have an event on May 7.

β€œThe Coast Guard Auxiliary will be here doing vessel safety inspections, so if you haven’t had a chance to dive into your boat to make sure that it is ready for the season, has all your safety equipment, that you’ve checked your freeze plugs, if you’ve got an inboard (or) outboard. You can’t be safe enough.”

Lake patrol officials say while it’s only required to have a life vest on your boat, everyone onboard should wear one.
