Charlotte Mom facing charges after repeat offender son is accused of stealing dog

CHARLOTTE, NC – A Charlotte mom is facing charges in connection to a stolen French Bulldog that she says she never took. The dog was inside a car in North Charlotte when police say several juveniles including her son stole the vehicle back in April.

Kendra Hunter gets emotional talking about her 14 year old son because she says he’s out of control but she won’t give up on him. Hunter is now facing a felony charge for the stolen dog she says her son once had inside their home without her knowledge. When she realized the dog was missing she contacted the owner, but by that time she says the dog was out of her home.

“I have cried my heart out for your dog. I can’t beat it out the kids where the dog is or you get charged with child abuse,” Hunter said.

Hunter is also facing multiple child abuse charges from earlier this year connected to the same son. WCCB did not name him due to his age. Hunter says he’s so out of control that he even threw a party while she was in jail.

“Any other time you get charged with leaving him alone at home but [police] closed the door and said forget him,” Hunter said. “He closed the door and had a party with sex, drugs, and three ankle monitors.”

Hunter says her son has been accused of crimes more than a dozen times in the last month alone ranging from violation of curfew to armed robbery! She says whenever police pick him up, he’s back home the same night.

“If I don’t come get him, if i don’t bring him to court like tomorrow I get charged with contempt,” Hunter said.

After trying counseling and even an ankle monitor, Hunter is desperate for help. She’s concerned the cycle could end in a casket.

“House arrest didn’t work. He comes and goes. I can’t touch him, can’t call to bring him back,” Hunter said. “So, what y’all want my baby boy to be dead? That’s what y’all want? Lock his a** up.”

WCCB reached out to the youth diversion program with the City of Charlotte. The manager says the teenager has to be a willing participant.

Julio the French Bulldog is still missing. The owner is offering a $2500 reward no questions asked and Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. You can reach Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. You do not need to leave your name and you don’t have to testify.
